Nick Jonas proves he’s no one-note wonder

His nickname is "Mr. President," and Saturday night Nick Jonas and his new band — Nick Jonas & The Administration, but of course — kicked off their inaugural tour at Dallas’ House of Blues. The band played to a sold-out crowd of screaming girls, most of them clearly fans of the three Jonas Brothers, those multiplatinum, multimillionaire pop stars who, for the last year and a half, have called Westlake home.

The question of the moment was: Could one Jonas — the youngest, at that — pull off a show on his own?

Let me just say "hail to the chief," my friends.

About six months ago, the JoBros brought their latest tour to a crowd of almost 50,000 in Arlington’s Cowboys Stadium, treating them to a carnival of a show that included an onstage water curtain, 350 lighting units, multiple costume changes, a new posse of string and horn players, and a trampoline for some signature flipping.

This concert stripped away all those extras, focusing on sound.

And what a sound. The first five songs of the 16 or so in the 1 1/2 -hour concert immediately showcased a more mature side of the 17-year-old phenom. Who knew he had a fantastically limber voice that could move back and forth in a nanosecond between a growling bluesy sound and a Prince-like falsetto? We’ve heard Jonas say that his influences include Prince, Stevie Wonder and Elvis Costello, and they’re obvious in gritty, complex tunes like State of Emergency, Olive and an Arrow and Last Time Around. Three of his band members for the tour — Michael Bland on drums, Tommy Barbarella on keyboards and Sonny Thompson on guitar — played with Prince’s New Power Generation, and they deliver rocking performances.

This was a smartly schizophrenic show. Only one single has been released from the band’s Who I Amrecord, slated to come out Feb. 2. Jonas, who also writes much of the JoBros material, proves himself a song-writing force with 10 new songs for this tour, some of which he says he wrote after the CD recording last April. But he also wanted to give fans some material they could sing along to and included crowd-pleasing JoBros’ hits Inseparable and Tonight, as well as a Black Keys/A Little Bit Longer mix.

Covers of the Kings of Leon’s Use Somebody and Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered were strong, and Jonas showed a remarkable stage presence — and endearing vulnerability — when he forgot the lyrics to Owl City’s Fireflies and made up some silly substitutes.

One can only hope that Jonas’ side project attracts the broader audience it deserves. Being a boy-band pop icon with a Disney TV show can have a bit of a polarizing effect. While the 8-year-old behind me who yelled "I love you, Nick!" every few minutes was cute, this Administration is worthy of some new-demographic support.

heres whats cookin: christmas wreaths :)

what you need:

1/2 cup margarine

1 package regular marshmellows

red cinnamon candies (aka red hots)

6 cups corn flakes cereal

green food coloring

melt butter in microwave for 1 min. add marshmellows and put it in microwave for 2 mins. stir butter and marshmellows together until mixture is gooey. add a few drops of food coloring and stir. then add 6 cups of corn flakes and mix well. make round or wreaths shapes onto wax paper and then place red hots around wreath. either place in refrigerator or let sit out until hardened. then eat them all!

we go to this young life camp in weiverville, north carolina every year for family camp.. this year was our 16th year! wowzers! so ive grown up going to windy gap and i truely believe its a glimpse of what heaven is gonna be like! all your worries seem to go away as soon as you get there.. and you just laugh and eat windy whirlys alll weekend! now whats better than that?!

God seems to change my heart every time i go there. this time he told me to slow down, stop worrying and to just trust him!

and guess what?! i get to go back to windy gap this weekend for a womens weekend with one of my best friends katie :) and so im really really ready to go back to heaven on earth and eat windy whirlys with katie!

our dog buddy died this morning. he was 13 years old.

he was the best dog! he was the smallest dog in the litter when we got him. he was the most gentle puppy, he always wanted to be with us and always made us laugh.

saying goodbye to him this morning we all were standing around talking about all the things we would miss about him.. maggie put that she would miss having him be the vaccum, molly put that she would miss "colonel stinky commander of the stinky legions of the north", my mom put that she wouldnt miss all the black hairs (shes so sensitive haha. but she will miss him), my dad put that he would miss his guy friend (my dad and buddy were the closest. and my dad was the last one to talk to him this morning before he died), and i will miss buddy sleeping with me during thunderstorms cause were both scared of them. we will miss you sweet buddy but we will see you again in heaven!

chrissy and i went to a mexican restaurant the other night in hilton head and they took a pic of us and were already on the website! haha! were so famous :)

this is what we did yesterday before the jonas brothers concert :)

maggie and hope singing karoke- jonas brothers of course.

hanging out with honor society.. cause were that cool!

(or were just WAY too good at stalking) heehee

we found the hotel they were at and they came down to the lobby and hung out with us for a good while and taught us their dance called the honor roll! we even got on fox news in bham.. ya know thats how the webb sisters plus bonus hope jonas roll. the jonas brothers concert was AWESOME and we cant wait till this weekend cause guess what were going again! jonas brothers concert in the atl 5 days!!!! now if we could only meet them! it will happen! :)

(side note: for those who do not know who the band honor society is.. they are the opening band for the jonas brothers and they are also in the movie bandslam)

and this is molly, maggie, hope and two of mollys friends doing the honor roll for a contest to win meet and greet passes to see honor society (even though we were hanging out with them all day...) and of course they won! haha

ill post some pics from yesterday as soon as moo gets them all purdy :)
